DIY Hanging Sconce

So I had a ton of fun with this DIY project and it is SO SO easy!

What you'll need:

Candle Holders of your choice - - I found these great bamboo ones at Hobby LobbyAn Electrical Cord Kit  - - I found these at World Market (they had other colors as well)Wooden Dowel (the thicker the better) - - I picked this up at Hobby Lobby. Double sided screws: 5/16th 3 1/2" - - You can pick these up at any local hardware store or LowesWall anchor - - You can grab these at any local hardware store as wellAnd tools: Channel Lock Pliers, Drill, razor knife, screw driver. Oh, and some sort of saw, hand saw, circular, table (whatever you want)

Step One:

Remove the handle from your candle holders (if there is one), this is where you'll need that screwdriver! Simple right?!?!

Step Two:

Remove the black ring from your light kit and place on the bottom of your candle holder.Trace a circle of the inside of the ring

Step Three:

Cut out your circle, we didn't have a way to cut it out easily, so we drilled some holes first and then cut it out the rest of the way with the razor knife!

Step Four:

Take your wooden dowel, measure it about 5.5-6" or shorter if you choose and cut it. Make sure it's a flat cut if it's not perfectly flat, sand it down to make sure it is!

Step Five:

Take a small drill bit and drill a pilot hole in the center of the dowel. Take the pliers and grip the center of the double headed screw and twist it into the dowel.

Step Six:

Now you're going to take your light kit and you're going to put the socket part through your hole you made in your candle holder, and screw on the ring that will hold the shade (candle holder) in place.

Step Seven:

Now you want to anchor the other side of your double headed screw into the wall and just use the dowel to turn and tighten the other end of the screw into your wall. (ours are 67" from the floor for comparison)Wrap the cord of your light kit around the dowel so the light fixture is about 6-8" from the dowel and be sure to wrap it 3-4 times!

Plug it in, and VOILA. YOU HAVE LIGHT! Only 30 minutes and $64 for both!! That may not seem like a huge savings but the ones I originally looked at and wanted were $60 EACH, so I saved myself about $60 by taking 30 minutes out of my day! Obviously this can very depending on what you choose to use as the shade and if you're willing to wait for an amazon delivery for cheaper light kits!
